Q: With all the shades available do you choose a lipstick color that works?
jenny meng, salt lake city, utah |
A: Great question! And surprisingly easy to answer- if you know your season. In a nutshell, the first thing to look at in deciding a lip color, is your hair. That's right, your hair! Do you see gold or red highlights? If yes then select a lip color with peach rust or golden tones. If no, lean toward pinks, roses, and purples. If you have light hair, the safe choice is a lighter lipstick. Dark hair can balance deeper richer lip color. Want to learn more? Take the seasonal color quiz...

Q: How do you use the foundation brush and why use one?
martha, va |
A: Hey martha- I am glad you asked. I will start with WHY to use a foundation brush. Have you ever taken paint on your fingers and smeared it on a wall? Do you remember what it looks like? How uneven? Compare that in your mind to what paint looks like when applied with a brush. Foundation isn't really that much different. Also, a foundation brush is specifically designed with synthetic bristles, so that no foundation is absorbed into the bristles. Now for the how, being right handed, I like to put some foundation on the back on my left hand. I use that as my palette. I then pick up the foundation with the brush from the back of my hand and paint it across my forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. I then use the brush to blend the areas together.
